Ultra MTB offers personalized coaching for endurance mountain bike racers with the overarching objective of helping you meet your goals while keeping training simple, fun, and efficient. I can help you with preparation and execution of anything from 50-mile marathons to 24-hour lap races to multi-day self-supported bikepacking races. I also recognize that while some cyclists thrive on a diet of structured workouts, others might prefer to prioritize riding enjoyment in conjunction with training goals over strictly regulated efforts and prescribed training hours. With all that in mind, here’s what I offer:
Collaborative development of creative training programs that include both on- and off-the-bike components tailored to ultra endurance pursuits
Heart rate, perceived exertion, or power-based workout options
Suggestions for how to fit preparation for endurance events into your already busy life schedule and minimizing associated stress
Nutritional guidance
Personalized race strategy and execution planning and mental preparation advice
Coaching includes an initial phone consultation and periodic communication thereafter
Listed below are the coaching programs I offer specific to endurance racing. 1. Advanced Endurance Coaching Program
This program is designed for athletes wanting more guidance and flexible structure in their training and more extensive advising on other aspects of race preparation and execution. Here’s all that is included:
Personal evaluation and initial consultation to identify goals, history, and experience
Daily training plan created on a 1- to 2-week basis built around other life commitments
Guided training zone identification for training by power, heart rate, or perceived exertion
Recommendations about bike setup, gear selection, and course-specific considerations for targeted race and goals
Weekly email exchanges and one telephone consultation per month (if desired; not including initial consultation; additional consultations discounted 30%)
Weekly (or more frequent) review and analysis of training data in TrainingPeaks (heart rate or power)
Advising on route details, race logistics, pacing and strategy, self-care, and race nutrition considerations
$200 per month with a 2-month minimum to start (unless upgrading from a different plan).
2. Premium Ultra Endurance Coaching Program
This program offers the level of race preparation that Kurt himself would go through in the months leading up to any ultra – specific training goals and workouts, careful consideration of gear selection, mental preparation, and detailed race execution planning. This is the ultimate coaching package for endurance racing. Here’s what is included:
Personal evaluation and initial consultation to identify goals, history, and experience
Guided training zone identification for training by power, heart rate, or perceived exertion
Daily training plan created on week-to-week basis with consideration of other life commitments
Detailed weekly review and analysis of training data (heart rate or power)
Recommendations about bike setup, gear selection, and course-specific considerations for targeted race and goals
Advising on mental and motivational preparation
Race execution plan development with projected race itinerary, resupply and nutrition planning, route-specific details, pacing and sleep strategies, self-care and considerations
Two telephone consultations per month (if desired; not including initial consultation) and unlimited emails
$350 per month with a 2-month minimum (unless upgrading from a different plan)
